About Dill Faulkes

Dr Martin "Dill" Faulkes is the founder and sole benefactor of the Dill Faulkes Educational Trust, which supports educational programmes that seek to inspire young people.

 

Faulkes has a degree in special mathematics from Hull University and a PhD in mathematics from Queen Elizabeth College, London.  He went on to do post-doc research in general relativity at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

 

He is the founder and CEO of several software companies in the UK and USA, and has floated or sold privately four companies. He was the founder, President and CEO of Logica Inc, Managing Director of System Programming Ltd, and founder and Director of Triad plc.

 

Faulkes is currently the Chairman of VolitionRx Ltd, a publically quoted life sciences company focused on developing blood-based diagnostic tests for cancer.

 

In 2004, an asteroid was designated '47144 Faulkes' in recognition of Faulkes's contribution to science education. In 2003, he was awarded the Sir Barnes Wallis Medal by the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators for 'an exceptional contribution to aviation'.  He is an Honorary Fellow of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge and a member of the 800th Cambridge Campaign Board. He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Cardiff University for recognition of his contribution to science education and a DSc from Hull University.
